Job Description and Duties

Under the general supervision of the Principal and the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Academic Instruction (SAI), the Academic Teacher, CF implements the California Department of Education (CDE) Adult School learning goals and objectives. Based on the incarcerated students’ learning needs, assessment results from the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS), and other educational assessment tools and documents, the teacher will develop lesson plans, assign coursework and provide a course of study based on the specific academic program. The teacher will provide services using several delivery methods (based on individual student needs) such as one-on-one, and/or small group instruction, and/or large group instruction on a pull-out basis. The teacher is required to maintain direct student contact related to the necessary amount of time based on student learning needs and group activities. The teacher will provide guidance to paraprofessional Teaching Assistants (TAs), Incarcerated Person(s) Student Aides, Incarcerated Person(s)-Clerks and Incarcerated Person(s) Tutors.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires that each full-time employee receive a 3% reduction in pay in exchange for five (5) hours of PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.

Special Requirements

If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, as well as a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
