Job Description

General Summary

Vertex is built on a strong sense of purpose, deep scientific curiosity, and a culture grounded in our values. We believe our culture is a critical enabler of our mission and an important reason people choose to join—and stay at—Vertex.

The Culture Director plays a key role in advancing how Vertex’s values and culture are experienced across the organization. This role focuses on translating culture into clear, practical expectations and scalable experiences that help employees and leaders understand what the Vertex culture looks like in action, and how it supports the work we do every day on behalf of patients.

Partnering closely with senior culture leadership, HR colleagues, and business leaders, the Culture Director helps design and deliver integrated culture work that is aligned to the needs of a growing, global organization and nurtures a consistent, authentic employee experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the evolution of enterprise culture priorities

Partner with senior culture and HR leadership to advance a cohesive culture roadmap, contributing to the design, coordination, and integration of culture work across Organization Development, Talent, and HR Business Partners.

  • Advance integrated culture practices

Lead and deliver work that brings together inclusive talent practices, cross‑cultural capability building, culture insights, and enterprise listening—translating insight into practical guidance that leaders and teams can apply in their day‑to‑day work.

  • Translate values into clear, practical expectations

Help shape and deliver work that anchors employees in Vertex’s values and culture by clarifying what those values look like in action—creating shared language, behaviors, and norms that resonate across roles, functions, and geographies.

  • Design and deliver scalable culture experiences

Develop and support culture programming that reaches employees at key moments, including onboarding, leadership and manager development, enterprise learning experiences, and ongoing engagement—ensuring culture is nurtured consistently as Vertex continues to grow.

  • Partner with leaders to activate culture locally

Collaborate with leaders and HR partners to embed culture into how teams operate, supporting leaders as they model expectations and support consistent experiences across the organization.

  • Embed culture into talent and leadership systems

Work across HR to integrate culture expectations into onboarding, development pathways, leadership forums, and core talent processes so culture is experienced as part of how work gets done—not as a standalone initiative.

  • Use insight to strengthen culture over time

Leverage qualitative and quantitative inputs—such as listening efforts, feedback, and research—to inform priorities, refine approaches, and focus effort where it will have the greatest impact.

  • Collaborate on culture storytelling and communications

Partner with HR and Communications to ensure a consistent, authentic narrative about Vertex culture, aligned to employee experiences and cultivated through programs, tools, and leader messaging.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Expertise in organizational culture, organizational development, employee experience, or related fields.

  • Strong ability to influence, partner, and deliver through collaboration in matrixed environments.

  • Demonstrated skill translating complex ideas into clear, practical guidance and experiences.

  • Experience designing and scaling programs across diverse roles, geographies, and stages of growth.

  • Excellent facilitation, synthesis, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Comfort working in ambiguity and adapting approaches as organizational needs evolve.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field preferred.

  • Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in culture, organizational development, employee experience, talent management and/or related enterprise‑level work.

Pay Range

$183,500 - $275,300
