Position Title

Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach



Overview

St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master’s and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all NCAA, conference, institutional and departmental guidelines, and policies.
  • Demonstrate leadership and professional behavior when dealing with all constituent groups, including prioritizing student-athletes, athletics department coaches and staff, and all members of the University community.
  • Design and implement strength training and conditioning programs for assigned intercollegiate athletic programs including football; in-season, off-season, and pre-season. (35%)
  • Work in cooperation with the head strength coach, sports medicine or athletic training staff in the rehabilitation and strengthening of injured athletes. (20%)
    • Assist in the design and implementation of policies and procedures for the strength and conditioning program. (10%)
    • Assist with developing systems for tracking weight room attendance and documentation of noteworthy events.(10%)
    • Assist with creating a system for student-athlete progress in conjunction with the sport coaches. (5%)
    • Assist with conducting an annual needs analysis for each sport team in conjunction with the sport coach at the conclusion of each sport season. (5%)
    • Facilitate a collaborative relationship among sport coaches, sports medicine, and the strength and conditioning staff. (5%)

Works with work study student employees and Athletic Performance interns (5%) Perform duties assigned by Director of Athletics and Recreation, Head Athletic Trainer, or Head Strength Coach. (5%)

Education / Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) certification



Preferred:

  • Master’s degree

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull strength and conditioning equipment, including free weights, racks, bars, and other training tools, typically weighing up to 50–100 pounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper lifting techniques and athletic movements safely and effectively.
  • May be required to work in varying environments, including indoor and outdoor training spaces, with exposure to temperature variations and noise levels typical of athletic facilities.
  • Requires visual, auditory, and communicative abilities sufficient to monitor athlete performance, issue instructions, and respond to safety concerns.


Supervision of Employees

Training and supervision of work study students and student interns.



Work Environment

Well-lighted, well-ventilated work area. Work with students and occasional travel.



Equipment to be Used

Must be able to be proficient in Word, Excel, and able to learn other related computer programs (Teamworks).

Work Hours

Full-time. Schedule varies depending on whether in-season or out-of-season. The ability to work nights and weekends required to support practices, games and recruiting events.
